Rainer Kohlberger diseñó su obra como película de ciencia ficción
postapocalíptica, cuya historia tiene lugar después de la sexta muerte masiva que ha exterminado la humanidad. Una nueva civilización de replicantes concebida por el Homo sapiens antes de su extinción se forma en la tierra que de otra manera es inhabitable. Una voz en el fondo confirma esto y reporta murmurando de la confusión sobre su propia génesis y existencia.

LIVED ONCE AND DREAMED TWICE commences with white noise and machine droning, gray video
static and colorful distortion artifacts—in essence, with the beauty of electromagnetic interference signals. Rainer Kohlberger conceived his work as a post-apocalyptic science fiction film, its story unfolding after the sixth great mass extinction has succeeded in wiping out the human race.
Acivilization of replicants bioengineered by Homo sapiens before they died out is now taking over the otherwise uninhabitable Earth. A murmuring voice off-screen attests to this while reporting
confusion over its own genesis and existence.

An animated documentary about a woman who turns into a castle based on Oliver Sack’s case study. In the 1920s, a disease called encephalitis lethargica or sleepy illness swept the world and left people like statues, speechless and motionless. This illness trapped people inside their bodies, stopping them from having the will to move or speak. In 1969, Dr Oliver Sacks treated Rose, a 64-year old woman, with a new drug called L-Dopa. Rose was struck by sleeping sickness at the age of 21 and awoke in 1969 to find her world of 1926 had vanished. She remained rooted in the 1920s and, as if the time gap was beyond her comprehension. Her „awakening“ was unbearable.
