Richard Lourie, a columnist for The Moscow Times for 10 years, is the author of a dozen books on Russia including “The Autobiography of Joseph Stalin” and “Sakharov:A Biography.”
He translated 25 books from Russian and Polish He travelled the length and breadth of the Soviet Union from Moscow to the Silk Road cities of Central Asia like Samarkand, from the Arctic Circle to the mountains of Georgia.
He is perhaps best described by Christopher Lydon, host of Radio Open Source: “Richard Lourie knows Russia, and better yet, he knows Russians, at street level up through his friend Sakharov’s stratosphere of science and art.”
